Slow Down, Say No and Re-Focus

5 Aug, 2016 | Personal

It’s been a long time since I last published a post on here just under a year ago. It feels like every month or so I would say to myself “I need to write a blog post” and then I let it get away from me.

In all honesty, it’s been for a mixture of work and personal reasons. On the one hand, I started a new role back in London with Deliveroo that would keep me busier than a job ever has before. On the other, I was back in London as a young adult which meant being more social and going out more. It’s been a whirlwind year and too be frank, I can’t believe it’s already been a year already - it’s gone so quick.

But now has come the time to slow down, say no and re-focus. I want to be more deliberate in how I choose to spend my time so that I am once again aligned with my long term goals and ambitions. The first step is to slow down and remind myself again of some of the things I value and want to achieve. For example, working on personal projects, being healthy (mind and body) as well as being a good friend, son and brother (social). The second, to say no. Time is not infinite and to focus on certain things you have to say no to others. I need to remind myself of this all the time and stop being the ‘yes-man’. Finally, to re-focus. I want to build an action plan around a few key goals and to really be deliberate in working around those and spending my time effectively.

And that is what I intend to do. I’ve already started thinking about what my key goals are and how best to track and manage my time around them. I intend to do it somewhat formally and openly in order to keep myself accountable and actually make progress. It won’t be another year before I publish again.
